Over the past three years, we have contributed more than $400,000.00 to MD Anderson Cancer Center. We were able to distribute 78% of our fundraising directly to MD Anderson for their use. The funds are used to accomplish the following:
- Fund initial clinical trial research to provide the data necessary for MD Anderson to apply for further, multimillion dollar research grants.
- Establish the fourth Neurofibromatosis tissue bank in the nation, a necessary link in the research of this genetic disease.
- Host an annual Christmas in July party of the in-hospital patients at the Children's Hospital.
- Pay the expenses of two Team “Making Cancer History” Race Across America teams.
- Pay the expenses for an annual Tour de Kids Bike Ride at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration “NASA” facility. We envision that this event will become a significant component of our MD Anderson fundraising efforts.
The Laboratory and Administrative requirements of Clinical Trials cost about $6,000 per patient. Funds from Team “Making Cancer History” allow these trials to begin on an expedited basis, without having to wait for lengthy grant application processes. A general breakdown of these costs is illustrated below.
