St. Stephen’s Episcopal Montessori teamed up with Team Making Cancer History to begin a Tour de Kid at the school. The children spent a week learning about cycling, safety, and the Children’s Cancer Hospital. At the end of the week, they all brought their bicycles to school and rode to MAKE CANCER HISTORY. Proceeds from the efforts of the children aged 2 – 6 were more than $2,000.
The 2005 and 2006 teams hosted a "Spring Fling Gala and Silent Auction" as their auxillary fundraising event. Kirk Gentle and Chris Shaw play in a Rock and Roll Band, "Dead Serious Band" which donated their services for the event. Escalantes, a local mexican food restaurant, donated the food and restaurant in 2005. The 2006 gala featured health drink smoothies from Via Vente, one of our sponsors. Each year, the Spring Fling netted about $20,000 for M.D. Anderson.
Each year, Team Making Cancer History spends a day in July with the patients at MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital and uses part of the funds raised to bring them Christmas in July. The afternoon is a fun diversion for the hospital’s patients, where children visit with Santa Clause, decorate a giant ginger bread house and small ginger bread cookies, and have the opportunity to meet the Team. This is our most rewarding time, to spend a day with the patients we are trying to help.
